NeighborWorks America: Strategically Plan for Employee Benefits Changes

NeighborWorks America (NW) is a national non-profit organization that acts as an intermediary to distribute and manage federal government funding for housing and neighborhood redevelopment projects. NW is known for its generous benefits package for employees, and for low employee turnover. As a result of funding cuts, the NW human resources group was faced with the need to make changes to employee benefits that would impact both the costs for the employee contribution and reduce retirement benefits. Springboard was asked to conduct a series of stakeholder interviews to determine employee reactions to possible changes, and to work with the HR team to put together a communications plan for NW. The recommendations were shared first with the NW officers, and then with the larger employee community as a part of the annual open enrollment cycle. Springboard then re-engaged with NW for the second year to monitor employee reaction and protect NW’s great reputation as an employer.
